Yvonne Kong

About
Yvonne is at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Born in Hong Kong and grew up in Ontario, she earned a BSc in Biological Sciences and Psychology from the University of Waterloo. During her gap years, she worked at a biotech start-up in San Francisco and a mental health clinic in Seattle, and founded LEAP for AAPI to support AAPI individuals with eating disorders. In her free time, she enjoys baking, hiking, and discovering new coffee shops with friends.
Gap Year Activities (2022-2024):
- Worked as a research associate at a biotech start-up in San Francisco, helping develop a liquid biopsy test for multi-cancer screening
- Volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association, leading outreach and education for the Chinese immigrant community in Northern California. Later brought this work to Seattle and helped launch the Washington chapter’s Asian-focused program
- Founded and currently lead LEAP for AAPI, an organization that supports Asian American and Pacific Islander individuals with eating disorders and connects them to recovery resources
- Worked as a program therapist at a residential mental health facility in Seattle, supporting both adults and adolescents in their daily care and treatment
- Volunteered with underserved communities in Seattle via HIV programs, interpreting at annual county clinics, etc.
