Sophia is originally from Beijing, China before moving to North Carolina at the age of fifteen. She attended Asheville School, a boarding high school in Asheville, NC. Upon graduation, Sophia earned her degrees in Chemistry and Exercise Science with a minor in Biology from Appalachian State University. Sophia found her passion in dentistry through her service experience with nonprofit community clinics providing dental services to the public for free. As the president of dental club, Sophia created volunteer experiences for other students. In App State Honors College, Sophia completed her senior thesis on the cleft palate and lip. Sophia was the student speaker and representative for many university-wide events. Sophia's experience as a tutor and biochemistry research assistant allowed her to discover her passion for dental education in addition to clinical practice. Her next goal in dental school is to learn more about ways to alleviate access to care issues through advocacy and initiating changes in public health policies.
