Jonathan Yiwei Hang

Yiwei is a medical student at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Yiwei is from Canada and completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and Economics at Northwestern University. In college, Yiwei was actively involved in helping underserved communities and was the Clinical Chair for the Chinatown Health Initiative, where he organized yearly health screening event and recruited volunteers for interpretation at a Hepatitis B clinic. For his gap year, Yiwei worked as a Research Technician at the Feinberg School of Medicine, taking on projects that aim to better understand the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis-like symptoms in mouse models. In medical school, Yiwei continues to be involved in service and is the student leader for free clinic in Richmond and Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) school chapter. In his free time, Yiwei enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it is hiking, kayaking or fishing.
