About

Hyun was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. He is currently a first-year medical student at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. With his interest in patients with neurological disorders, he volunteered at a children's home where he coordinated and executed speech and musical therapies for children with various neurological conditions including cerebral palsy. He also conducted research focusing on pediatric patients with brain injury and used the skills he developed as a head EEG technician to analyze brain waves and find relevant prognostic biomarkers. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and then took a gap year working as a medical scribe in an orthopedic clinic. Outside his school, he enjoys spending his time with his family and especially loves playing with his two-year-old son. Talk to Hyun about applying to medical schools as an international student or anything in general about being a medical student!
