Diego is a Psychiatry intern at WashU. He is originally from Spain and graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 2021. He received his undergraduate B.A. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Middlebury College. While in college, Diego was a DIII varsity high and triple jumper, was an active member of the International Student Organization, and participated in two musical productions. He got involved in research after his third year when he completed a summer research internship at Middlebury College. He later continued his research project throughout his senior year. After a not-very-successful application year, Diego decided to take 2 years off to gain some work experience before applying again. He spent a year working as a research assistant at Boston Children's Hospital and a year back at Middlebury as a research assistant, track and field assistant coach, and volunteer Spanish interpreter at a free clinic. During his medical education, Diego spent his third year conducting research in Singapore and Malaysia as a Duke-NUS fellow. He then decided to take a leave of absence from medical school to pursue an MPhil in Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge.
