Chi is a Vietnamese at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She came to the US in 2016 to attend college at Wellesley College. As an undergraduate, she dedicated time to basic science research in a computational biochemistry lab studying protein-drug interactions in rapidly mutating cancer systems, and to volunteering in cancer awareness and activism organizations. She also interned at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Boston), and Lurie's Children Hospital (Chicago), working on translational and clinical projects. After graduating in 2020 with a BA in Biochemistry, she worked for 1 year as a research assistant in a pediatric hematology/ oncology lab at Boston Children's Hospital (Boston).
